How To Get Involved

CHARITY IS LOVE.

If I speak in the tongues  of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing…

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

- The Bible, 1 Corinthians 13

You will not attain righteousness till you spend in charity of the things you love.

- The Qur’an, Chapter 3, verse 92.

Whatever a man gives in charity everyday, and whatever a man uses for his enjoyment everyday, that alone do I consider the wealth of a person. But that wealth that one does not donate or enjoy is merely under his protection, and does not really belong to him (so to speak).

- Vyasa Smriti 4.16

There are four bases of sympathy: charity, kind speech, doing a good turn, and treating all alike.

 - Buddha
Tzedakah and acts of kindness are the equivalent of all the mitzvot of the Torah (charity is equal to all the other commandments combined).
– Jerusalem Talmud, Pe’ah 1:1.

Regardless of who you are, or where you are in the world, there is a basic and universal truth that affects us all, as human beings — and that is the fact that in ways both seen and unseen, our lives are intertwined and have an affect on one another.

Gaps between the haves and have-nots, between those in need and those who can give, have been with mankind from the very start. It is for this reason that  organized charities had been started: to make it easier for those who are in a position to do so, and want to share what they have, with those less fortunate than them.

Random or individual acts of kindness to the needy are of course, important in themselves. But when you want to reach out to a bigger sector, and make your actions produce a wider range of positive effects, then it is more advisable to support an organized charity.

That way, you can not only track your donations/contributions, you can also see how much improvement is happening in the lives of the beneficiaries of your generosity.

You can make a difference in the lives of the deserving needy.

You can share your love by getting involved.
