For the longest time, David Garcia has known of Po Leung Kuk (PLK), the Hong Kong social services organization that among other achievements, has housed, helped to educate, and showered love on the numerous indigent children from different parts of Hong Kong.
It is David’s professional association with the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club, that led to his eventually becoming the Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Charity Fund, with Po Leung Kuk as its prime beneficiary.
Throughout the years of its existence, in good or bad economic climates, the Charity Fund has been one of the staunchest supporters of the efforts of PLK to live true to the core vision of the organization. In the local language, “Po Leung” is a literal translation of “protection of the young and innocent,” and that is exactly what the social services organization seeks to achieve.
However, whereas before, it started as a force to reckon with in the prevention and resolution of kidnapping, particularly against women and children, PLK’s role gradually evolved to encompass the protection of marginalized women and children, along with assisting in mediation cases involving family issues and marital disputes.
Finally, PLK became Hong Kong’s leading social services organization and fundraiser. This is where the David Garcia and the Foreign Correspondents’ Club Charity Fund comes in.
In cooperation with its generous corporate and individual sponsors and donors, the Hong Kong FCC Charity Fund, through Po Leung Kuk, has been instrumental in the improvements of the lives of numerous children, particularly in the areas of Language Training, support of a Children’s Learning Centre, a Child Development Programme, the provision of Scholarship Funds and an Education Services Centre.
The dynamic partnership among all stakeholders and keyplayers involved in such charitable pursuits has borne tremendous fruits, with many child beneficiaries growing up to become productive and grateful members of society who wish to pay forward the blessings that they have received.

The unthankful heart… discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings! - Henry Ward Beecher
For as long as we live, we will always have blessings to share. We, all of us, were created to give and to bless each other, much in the same way that we have been blessed by our Creator.
